All the hyperventilating by the Democrats about Social Security I thought is was time to set a few things straight.
DOGE has been working to remove fraud and waste from the Social Security Administration. what they have discovered is appalling. Over 15 million people receiving benefits every month while being over 120 years old. The oldest living American is 114. At the average payment that is 37 billion dollars of fraud every month. 444 billion annually. This is money stolen from America's seniors. This fraud has been going on for decades.
Another example is 40% of the phone calls SSA receive are attempts at fraud. the fraudsters call SSA and asks to change the direct deposit information. The SSA has no ability to verify the ID of the caller and often makes the change. This is easy money for a fraudster
These examples are why DOGE is needed. It's even more apparent as you listen to various politicians attack DOGE for doing this work. There is only one reason to try to stop this fraud. They are benefiting from it.
Social Security Act of 1934. The Social Security Act was signed in 1935 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. It set up the
Social Security program for retirement, disability, and survivor benefits. It's initial tax rate was 1% for each the employee and employer for a combined 2% rate on the FIRST $3000 a person earned.
When combined with the Income tax which applied to income in excess of $4000, you can see that virtually all income was taxed at this point. The proof Social Security was and is a tax. It is not voluntary and the money collected goes into the general fund.
Social security cards were never originally intended as an Identification Card. Why is that you ask? The cards were and are easy to forge. Currently all you need to steal someone's identity is their birth date, name and Social Security Number (SSN). That's it. You also don't need an accurate SSN just one that is active and their are millions of active SSN's without a person attached. This is another thing DOGE is working on. Reconciling real alive Social Security recipients with active SSN's. Is there anything that democrats want to be accurate and verified?
Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and Card were not to be used for identification purposes. Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION was removed. An old Social Security card with the "NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION"message.
This is no longer true as Social Security information is used as a proxy for citizenship although no citizenship proof is required to obtain a social security number.
Our Social Security Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program.
He promised:
1) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary, No longer Voluntary (never was)
2) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 (the law passed was 2% on %3000) of their annual incomes into the Program, Now 7.65% On the first $90,000.
3) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year, No longer tax deductible (never was)
4) That the money the participants put in went to the Independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the General Operating Fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and, Under Johnson (officially, it was there unofficially before Johnson) the money was moved to The General Fund and spent.
5) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income. Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed. President Trump want to return to NO taxes on Social Security.
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to 'put away -- you may be interested in the following:
Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the Independent 'Trust Fund' and put it into the General Fund so that Congress could spend it?
A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratically controlled House and Senate.
Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?
A: The Democratic Party.
Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
A: The Democratic Party with Al Gore casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the U.S.
Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants? (AND MY FAVORITE):
A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments. The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it. This is called vote buying. This practice has continued since that time.
The latest change to Social Security by the Democrats: Social Security Fairness Act was signed into law on January 4, 2025. This bill signed by Pres. Joe Biden ends the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset, boosting benefits for federal employees that did not pay into Social Security. They now collect full social security benefits and their full federal pension.
Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away
Only President Trump and the Republicans want to remove taxes from Social Security as originally promised.
